If I get an 890, I want to immediately replace the only 3 things I find awful on this bike: The exhaust, the 'tail', and the incandescent turn-signals. Of the exhausts, I don't want the bike noisy, and since I want a 'tail tidy' (which is the best? Thx), I think the Yoshi Alpha T would be the best, since it'd be barely louder than stock (with baffle in place), and it shouldn't interfere with turn-signals on a tail-tidy, correct? And are there any plug-and-play LED turn-signals that don't require splicing any wires? I'd like a plug-and-play connector with the required resistors, to avoid hyper-flashing. Other than that, I need a tail bag too, but somebody posted where to get a 'rack', and I'd just have to get the R's exhaust bracket, to remove the ugly pillion pegs, since I never use them. Will make a decision on which bike on Tuesday ('21 MT-09 or 890). Thank you.

What are you saying caused the power gain, the Akra or the SC Project?
I have mentioned about Akrapovic Evolution line full exhaust + Genuine optional ECU map.
I have checked power of my 890 and result is here. Blue is Akra Full ex and red is full standard ex. (Not SC Project)
But actual air temperature was different, so this is not completely fair comparison.
(Standard = 11degreeC, Akra = 25.4degreeC)

  • Significant torque increase between 4200-7500rpm
  • Peak power is +5.2ps
  • Improve over rev character
  • Standard A/F looks quite lean to meet EURO5... It looks around stoichiometric A/F, but this is full throttle value.

I didn't check actual power of SC Project because it felt very similar to standard.

Hey gang, I was looking for the Yoshi Alpha T exhaust for the 890, that comes with an insert, and all Yoshi shows is the new style AT2, which does NOT appear to come with an insert at all, due to its new slanted design. Is that the case for sure? I don't want a noisy bike, and without the insert, the bike is noisier than I'd like. I'd only want to get rid of that ugly muffler, but not more noise. Or just a little, but with that open muffler, the bike is substantially noisier. Not that it sounds bad (it doesn't), but I just don't want to attract attention that way. If not available anymore, is there any other such alternative, meaning a smallish can that wouldn't interfere with a 'tail tidy' with LED turn-signals? Thx.

What did you do with the Akra?

I run a Wings. I mailed before hand and they sent it un-labelled and with the Carbon in Matte. A little bit "stealth".
It points out a bit too - Not just up and back. I mention this in case you're considering luggage.
How does it sound?

How loud are the sc/ Austin racing with a cat still on, do you know?

How loud is it and do you have the cat on or off? What’s it sound like?

How loud is it and what does it sound like? Looking for something loud and deep.

@MinGaardWarlord - pic attached was taken prior to the decat pipe install. As for the KTM dealer, that's completely false. Based on guidance I received here (the map is free), I contacted the dealer/primary tech and they didn't bat an eye. Essentially your dealer is saying unless you buy this KTM licensed Akro pipe, we're not going to give you this free map. Nothing special about the Akro slip on + decat pipe, whatever slip on/decat combo you go with should be awfully close in flow/spec/performance. I am located in Florida, but if the dealer name helps, please let me know. View attachment 6924
How loud is the set up and what does it sound like? Did you just have the dealer reflash?

My decision after watching all the sound vids and looking at how they all fit (proximity to turn signals with tail tidy, etc) I went with an Austin Racing V3, 200mm because I didn't want it to be too short/stubby. I loved the exhaust, but still felt it wasn't quite loud enough...and I wanted a little bump in power, esp through the midrange. I purchased an SC project decat pipe and had my local KTM shop update the ECU with the full system Akro map (FREE!). I absolutely love the way the bike sounds and runs now. I had the quickshifter installed/unlocked at the same time, so I'm sure that probably helped...

Different to OEM but NOT loud.
With the baffle in - I would say it might even be a bit quieter.
I run with baffle as it has a spark arrestor - and Spain in summer is usually tinder dry.
Without Baffle WINGS say it is about twice as loud as OEM.

But to be clear - I also have a COOBER ECU that was supplied by WINGS with the pipe. It is also labelled WINGS.
Whether this has a more precise algorithm set than a generic COOBER I have no idea.
It was a package deal and I really wanted the COOBER more than the WINGS.
I prefer the Titanium finish with the general look of my bike, but I'd have no qualms in refitting the OEM. In fact for any touring work - I would.

Take into account you should NOT expect performance gains with any Slip-On on the 890R. And the short low volume slip-ons have been shown to reduce top end power.
And be aware that the 890R is Euro5 so many pipes listed for the 890R from Eur (and a shed load of pipes are Italian) do not have an easily removable baffle.

It comes down to aesthetics more than anything.

And a question - are you intending to fit a tail tidy? - if so than be aware that some slip-ons jet hot gas straight at the indicators of TailTidies.

Wait 'till it arrives - play with it and then start looking at "options".
Ha ha ha spot on about the tail tidy my right indicator has lost a bit of length on the end of my 790 at least it's still working. 😆

And that's with the standard muffler.

Hey everyone,

Im wondering what you would recommend as the best exhaust for my new 890R. I haven't even heard it run yet as it's still being built. However I like the sound of an aftermarket exhaust. I put the Leo Vince on LV1 on my 390 and it made it sound better with the baffle pulled out. Just wondering what u guys think. I am sorry if there is already a thread about this. I'm new here and don't know all the ways to navigate it yet.
Not that loud but huge weight saving compared to the original banana.

I went with a titanium Arrow Pro-Race. Well worth it. I’ve used Arrow on the last few bikes Bc the quality and note are outstanding IMO.

I find it very surprising that no one at this point mentioned to the OP the commonly ridiculous problem that if do any track/spirited back road riding where your toes on peg, a lot of these exhaust options will seriously melt your boot.

To the OP, take this into consideration when choosing your exhaust. Sounds and aesthetics are less important than destroying your boots IMO. I’ve seen a lot of guys burn holes straight through their boots and have rubber all melted on their exhaust.

If this isn’t a concern, I’d be happy to cut you a killer deal on an arrow titanium slip on lol.

I’ve got no issues with my wings pipe, and heat my heel is almost always up against the carbon heel guard. The only issue I’ve had with heat is trying to put 3M film on the carbon guard, the adhesive didn’t like the heat.

I regret not buying the wings. Seems like it’s basically the Akra without the big price tag. Checks on quality, looks, and not nasty loud.

No experience of hearing any other exhausts, didn't even run mine with the standard can before replacing it, but I do like the sound of the Ixil Race I fitted, main DB killer removed, but the smaller link pipe one left in.
Not noticed any boot pipe interface issues in the miles I've ridden it (not a lot)

Secaworks, looks like you have some aftermarket rearsets in the highest, most rearward position, and that would explain your boot to pipe interference. Stock pegs should not be much of a problem.

I’ve had to put my powerparts rearsets to the highest setting for clearance on track. Maybe I’ll try them more forward though to make a little space, thanks for the idea! I’m thinking about getting a shop to just cut the pipe and weld in a segment more inward bent.
