What oil?

Was wondering what oil everyone uses in this bike?

I have only owned japanese bikes and have used rotella t6 in all of them because you can easily find it at walmart and canadian tire and several other stores. Would this oil be ok in this bike? It differs from what the manual recommends so that has me worried. I would hate to have to go to the KTM dealer to buy my oil because the nearest one is quite far from me.

Also, where do you buy your oil filters from?

Use a good quality motorcycle specific oil the right grade 10W/50 that meets the JASO specification as per the manual.

As for filters, I would only recommend KTM’s, and that means from a dealers or online.

I use Motorex 10w50 as reccomended by ktm in owners manual. As for the filter I use original ktm filter. You should be able to get from you dealer.

agree with Theron
Yeah the ktm dealer has the oil/filters.... I guess I will have to travel to the dealer every time I want to buy the oil/filter, which is kinda annoying as I live in a small town and the nearest ktm dealer isn't close. That's why I was hoping there were other options, eg walmart or some other store near me, but I guess none of the oils they carry are suitable for this bike.
You can order oil and filter online if you like. You'll find them on Amazon
Sometimes these parts stores can do special orders for you. Its not common knowledge among many folks but its an option most sophisticated operations have. The more experienced employee's at those locations would be familiar.
I just ordered Castrol Power 4T 10w50 from Amazon. Saved a few bucks and it exceeds JASO MA2 standards the manual talks about.

At time of writing:
Motorex = $57.41 / 4L = $13.57/US quart
Castrol = $49.69/6 US Quarts = $8.28/US Quart

Specs? Yes. That’s from the engineering department
Brands? No. That’s from the marketing department

Too bad it takes 1 2 months to ship

Weird... it quotes me 1 week.
Still have 4 quarts of Castrol Power 4T 10w40 that I used on my SV650. Can I use that to top off if there is any oil usage?

I would not mix oils but don't have any real evidence as to why :) Just doesn't seem like a good idea.
Maxima has a good offering at 10W50. I use that and Amsoil, depending on availability, price, shipping, etc.
