Hi, my name is Mark. I've just put a deposit down on a 790, and if all goes to plan (like selling my current bike over winter!) I'll be aboard the new bike around March.

This will be my first KTM, so a couple of questions:

1) Is the gas tank on the 790 metal or plastic? My current Italian steed has a plastic tank, and I've been restricted to using ethanol-free gas, to prevent the tank from expanding.

2) What are the service intervals on the 790, particularly major servicing and valve adjustment?

Thanks!

Tank is metal. Coming from an Aprilia with the plastic tank problems, this was a big winner for me.

You can see the owners manual with service schedule here:

Hi, welcome,
Just curious, but is it true Canadian motorcyclists get hit hard with insurance costs ?

Insurance costs vary wildly depending on which province you live in. Here in British Columbia, vehicle insurance (car, bike, whatever) is expensive. When I get the 790 Duke, I'm fully expecting to pay the equivalent of 700 pounds a year for comprehensive coverage - and that's with maximum no claims bonus and a completely clean driving record! But it is what it is - I just pay it and forget it! On the upside, bikes are cheaper here, so there's give & take I guess!

Thanks for the link! Glad the KTM tank is metal. I too have an Aprilia, and fortunately I knew about the issue with ethanol swelling the plastic tank when I bought it new, so I have only ever used ethanol-free gas, which gladly is still quite readily available in Canada. I'll still go ethanol-free when I get the 790 - seems to be generally kinder to any plastics & hoses it touches, but at least it's not a big deal when riding and refuelling in the US, where ethanol-free gas is almost impossible to find.
