Side by side, the 790 appears to be a different shade than the 390.

It also appears to be different than the orange that was used in the prototype. I saw the prototype in person at Cota a couple of years ago and it looked dark similar to photos of it I see online. But the 790 in the flesh looks different.

I've read that KTM just uses one color of paint, RAL2009. But the orange in the 790 plastics does not appear to be painted. I'm actually considering having my orange plastic painted orange.

Does anyone know why the other oranges seem so different to the 790? Or have you even noticed?

Yes it's different. It's not painted, it's colour impregnated plastics.

Do i care.... Hmmmm not so much.
I get it. There's nothing wrong with it. I just really love the "other" orange. Your explanation is extremely helpful because now I have the confidence to customize mine by having it painted with RAL 2009. I was afraid maybe there was some other color code I would need to get it the way I wanted it.

Thanks, man.

Painting plastics isn't the easiest sometimes but as the 790 has a metal fuel tank it should be ok

Decal kit instead?

Interestingly, I reached out to 2 different dealers and both assure me that neither the 790 nor the 390 are painted. The plastics on each just happen to be died differently. The 390 has a deeper shiny and is a bit darker. IMO it has a higher quality look to it. Strange that the cheaper (and made in India) versions (390 Duke and RC) have the expensive looking orange and the 690 and 790 (more expensive and made in Austria) have the cheaper looking orange.

The shame is that there is no paint code for the 390 plastic bc it's not painted. I've spoken to a company that does wraps and I might go that route. The orange piece can be wrapped for $400 and if I want to work on a spare, the extra part from KTM is $350.

Edit: I'm blind as a bat. I just noticed the link you provided. Those don't look bad. That's another option. Thanks.
