Stock tail with mud guard

10141 Views 24 Replies 12 Participants Last post by  my790
I didn't realize this until I got the bike home from dealer, but it came with a kind of mud guard bolted under the tail. I've never seen this in pictures of the bike before. I quite like it, and honestly makes me think I don't need tail tidy.

Anyone else got that? Or is it just my dealer that added it?
I have to ask at next service.

Might be worth checking if Pyramid or someone else makes an extension for that.
I see now some new forum members got that on their bikes as well, so it's definitely stock from manufacturer now.
Same here in the US. I have an R&G tail tide on order already.....whenever the **** that comes available again! You guys across the pond are buying up all the aftermarket parts!!
@Chic I'm not surprised to hear that tbh. I've been to moto meet Schwabish Gmund couple weeks ago. So many 790's... And most had nearly all power parts, including the orange bolts, caps and whatever other non-essential mods. Mine was the only one without original power parts bar-end mirrors ...even though you can get exact same ones, just without the logo, at Louis for 1/3 the price.

This is a good option. Better than the R&G one I recon.

Easy to install too. Check You Tube.

anyone how much weight is saved with a tail tidy? is it even worth it besides the looks? I'm seeing now that some of the aftermarket ones place the right indicator light in a position where it gets melted by the exhaust heat...

Just need to make sure the blinker isout of the exhaust firing line, I think the chap who melted his on here was using a homemade jobby, although I could be wrong. I've got the R&G - no issues with either stock or akra.
Hi Chaps
Think one of you already asked ...but if I fit a tail tidy will this cause road spray to cover the back of my jacket?

This is with the stock turn signals also right and due to the heat shield it comes with?

Stock signals yes, although these are the EU one’s which might be different to other regions?

Don’t think my R&G came with a heat shield, it was one of the first gen, I got it when the bike first launched, they may have added it since just in case.

For US\Canada owners, be aware that our stock turn signals are way bulkier than the stock LED's fitted elsewhere, and the R&G heat guard does NOT fit US\Canadian bikes. I know first hand, and made R&G aware of it. Maybe they've modified it now (it was 3 months ago I told them) but just a heads up.

Yea that is/was my worry!! That right blinker will be about an inch from the exhaust and I am wondering if the heat shield will even do it's job. Mark, have you changed out your blinkers or modified the heat shield? I have some high temp heat tape I may put on the back of the blinker once I get the tidy, unless I spring for some LEDs before then. Just can't decide on which ones I want and what else I will need to install them.

Another question for you guys regarding signals... What is the size diameter of the stock openings for the signals? Most of the LED signals I have come across fit for 8mm bolts. Is this what the 790 (USA/Can) accepts??
Nice tidy for sure, easy install, (looks like), personally I've always preferred an integrated set-up, with the blinkers built into the tail light, that's how I'll prolly purchase for the 790.

So is there an slightly extended mud-flap/hugger that would help with the rain/mud, after removing the stock, bulky, unsightly tail light/mud flap contraption?

Chic, it actually became a non issue for me, because I installed an Ixil Ixrace M2 slip-on exhaust which is well away from the signal. However, I did ride for a while with the R&G tail tidy (no heat shield), stock exhaust and stock signals, and had no issue at all with the signal getting hot. Admittedly the weather was a lot colder at the time, but I often touched the signal after a long-ish ride, and it was barely warm.

Hahahaha funny you should say that cause I was thinking that the tail tidy will force me to spend more money in n exhaust eventually! I am still undecided on exhaust but am leaning towards the Remus which also has that kind of clearance from the blinker. Once I get the tidy with the heat shield, I will install it and see how it fairs. If I need more shielding, then I will use my tape, and if it still gets hot, time to drop the money on an exhaust! Glad to hear it didn't seem to affect the blinker and wasn't hot. I will def keep an eye on it though! Thanks for the reply!
