Anyone know how to check if the steering damper is working? I feel no resistance at slow or high speeds. Should I feel resistance when pushing the handlebars back and forth?

Thanks for any information...

No, you would not feel resistance while turning the handlebar back and forth. If you did it would have too much damping and affect the handling negatively. The damper is for 'high speed damping, which would be very rapid movements, not the type of movement when turning the handlebars.

Headshake, which is what the damper is designed to dampen, it a very fast movement side to side of the fork/bars.

As mentioned by @L8-apex, it is not something that is possible to recreate "manually".

I think the stock oil is to light, my bike (790) has a head shake when accelerating hard, not bad but would certainly like to get rid of it.

So once you have the snap ring and the washer ect pull the eyelet side all the way up the with a dead blow or similar give it a good tap Or two and it will pop the seal off ....there is a YouTube video out there that is really good.
