What are people's opinions of the quickshifter??

Whilst my bike is still pretty new (just at 1000km, first service imminent), I find that especially downshifting it is often obstructive & sometimes (especially 5 - 4 & 3 - 2), just plain impossible.

Clearly I will get them to have a look at the service, but just wondered if this is typical, or my bike has an issue.

Had the same system on a previous BMW (2016 R1200RS), and it generally worked fine & nicely 'blipped' the throttle on downshifts, which my Duke generally doesn't. Whilst far from a problem I'm back to the clutch at the moment, but missing this aspect of 'fun-factor'!!

I would says it's a very good quickshifter certainly the best one from KTM so far
up changing the faster the revs the smoother it gets, at low revs it can be clunky but then why use it at low revs
down changing never had any issues at any revs
i would say you have to be very positive when changing up or down

But like AMatu for general riding i tend to use clutch, just think its less stressful to the engine/gearbox/chain etc.

I'll see what it's like after the service. I don't use it in normal riding either, only when going harder - maybe when I can use full revs it will be better.

Hi mate,tried not to use the shifter much while running in,had it switched off most of the time but have been giving it a go a few times lately.It seems pretty good although I dont tend to use it much on downshifts.This is actually the first bike Ive owned with a shifter although Ive ridden a couple of bikes with them fitted.My mates XR1000 BM,s shifter is really smooth but that has a bit more mileage on it than mine.Only time Ive really had a problem is when going from 5th to 6th a couple of times its given me a false neutral,sounds bloody awful when it does it,but as i say only got 680miles on the clock and not had 1st service yet so early days.
The gearbox will probably loosen up with a bit more mileage and some fresh oil.:)

My dealer told me the quickshifter was disabled during the run-in period, however coming off my striple that had one installed and due to muscle memory/habit, almost immediately used it by accident on the way home.

Thought it was strange that it worked so checked through the menus and it was actually enabled, so it seems more like it's just advisable not to use it rather than enforced, but I did try to avoid using it until after the run-in anyway.

Now that the run is done I find I don't have any problems using it, but you do have to be quite confident/assertive on the shifts though.

Never had any problems going up the box (always throttle wide open, albeit not at max revs - run in)), but have found it very obstructive when downshifting. Sometimes it's not a question of applied pressure - it just plain won't shift esp. 5 - 4 & 3 - 2. All this has been within the first 1000km, so I'll speak to the dealer & see what they say & maybe after the service with a slightly thicker oil it might be better.

What I also notice is that it doesn't 'blip' the revs on downshifting. My BMW R1200RS had the same system & made a very a very satisfactory (in car parlance - heel & toe) blip on downshifting.

For me the principal benefit of such a system is precisely going down the box - hard acceleration with the slightest of clutch (or in the higher gears usually without) is never a problem.

my bike has some 3500miles
quick shifter up is good as long as revs are 5K plus
Down shifter again at 5k plus good but at lower revs can become a bit sticky requiring more force rev blipper works but is more pronounced at higher revs

Turns out by bike did indeed have an issue - the mechanic took it for a spin & affirmed my doubts. As a first pass to resolve it they reinstalled (and I believe with an update) the bike firmware - & hey presto it's transformed!!!

Now it works totally seamlessly up & down at ANY revs - as it should.

So 'anotheronetoday' - at the next visit to your dealer you might want them to do the same as it should not only work well north of 5K revs.

Whether one then chooses to use it at lower revs is a different question, but the bike should be able to be ridden clutchlessly after having set off from stationary.

Maybe it's psychosomatic, but the bike also feels faster - however I've only done a few km since collecting it.

BTW - first (1000km) service €148 - oil/filter/o-rings/bit of antifreeze/gen nuts & bolts check/chain tension & lube etc....

Anyone else get the 2.0 Update and notice a big improvement?

I already took my 790 back to the dealer so he can check the quick shifter as i felt it wasnt as good as it should be, maybe 2.0 is the answer?

Hi mate,interesting to hear about your quickshifter problems.Mine seems a bit better after the first service but still a bit quirky.Im escpecially having problems with the cnange from 5th to 6th.It seems to lag and a couple of times it has given me a false neutral which is bloody awful.Will have to get mine checked out to make sure they have updated and if need be get them to reinstall as they have done with yours.
