Hi.
I'm 99% sure my next bike will be a 790 but just wondered what are the bad points/downsides, people have found. I'm going for a demo in a couple of weeks so that should hopefully help my decision but basically till then im just learning as much as possible.
Will be going to either Craigs Dewsbury or SMC at Sheffield for the demo.
I currently ride a 2018 husky 701 sm and mainly ride in the Peak District and Yorkshire dales. I also did my first trackday at Cadwell last year, loved it so will be hopefully doing plenty this year.

Hi Weeksy:) Looking forward to the demo. I had a couple of hours out yesterday on the 701 and definitely need something less "frantic"

I hear that, we were discussing the 990Sd in that context too, it's just raaaaarrgghhh all the time. The 790 is a ***** cat when you sit at slower speeds, but can hustle when asked. But it doesn't dictate your ride by its traits, like say the 990, it demands hooliganism all day every day. I've not ridden the smcr/701 but I can see how they would too based upon my ownership of 690s. You have to ride the 690 hard due to the power, or lack of it.

I'll be very very interested in your report

Will keep you posted, spoke to one of the dealers and i should be able to take it into the peaks for an hour so that will be perfect. Hopefully get over in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

I've actually realized that those very characteristics of the 790 turned off some folks I know, pushing them to more touring like bikes that BMW offers.
Fair choice but I think eventually KTM might find tapping into BMW's buyer base to be a good strategy.

make sure you have the cash in the back pocket because after your test ride you will want to buy and ride away

My orange 790 will get out of factory on March 5th.

I never tested the 790 before buying...I tested the MT-09 and the Monster 821.

If 790 will rise to those expectations, I’ll be very happy with the choice I made.

Have you done any track days yet, or is it still a bit cool where you are?
Annoying struggled to find time to even ride it, managed to do 510 miles so far. I've been super busy at work so dropped it off for the first service and some tyres, pick it up next week and intend to crack on with some decent riding, then book some trackdays:smile:

That sounds amazing, things to look forward too. I get the busy schedule as well!
