If you do a search for oil leak you will find this has been discussed numerous times

 

Very common. Valve cover gasket leak at half moon. Lots on forum about it. Once fixed , your as good as new. Don't worry as it's not suggestive of you having a " bad bike".

Its the valve cover gasket. I got mine replaced with a new gasket from KTM (new part number) and used shitloads of sealant. No more leaks

 

Hi ,me too, I am convinced, that almost everyone owning duke 790, 890 had this problem. When I uninstall valve cover on my moto, I was surprised what a small amount and not on whole moon surface has been used by KTM Assemblers...very SAD, so trivial exercise Fixed by new gasket (but gasket is not faulty) and and it is very important...more sealant, No more leaks any more

I’ve had no issues of any kind on my 21 890R. 3,200 miles so far.

 

So you are lucky man, I know many people personally and here in forum, that have this same problem...Maybe KTM technology assembly factory setup has been inproved after four years GOOD

Like I said. No issues of any kind.

 

Yup, my ‘21 890 started leaking at the end of last summer in the same exact spot. Seems to be worse on hotter days or if I have to sit in traffic. Quick back road blitz’s and/or cooler temps it’s usually fine. Kind of annoying on a new bike but if you’ve got a warranty it’s covered I’m pretty sure.

 

Same leak , I called the dealership and let them know . I’ll end up dropping off the bike for them to fix it soon.

 

Yep, have that leak for a while now. Just under 10k kms. Not sure if I want my dealer replacing it and still waiting for replacement thermostat/housing to turn up. Considering getting the gasket off them and doing it myself so I can check valve clearances at the same time and make sure gasket is fitted properly.

 

has anyone had success with ordering and receiving the head gasket ? My bikes at the dealer and waiting on the gasket before they pull the top end off and replace . I hate not having the bike to ride…

 

Why not ride the bike until the gasket arrives? It's a very minor issue

 

having this at 13k miles on my 21 890R... has anyone had it fixed out of warranty?

 

Mine was fixed under the extended warranty.

 

Oh well.. no extended warranty in the UK.. I hope they cover anyway it or that it's not too expensive..

On the bright side that does prove that you have some oil up there!

 

has anyone with this problem tried tightening the screws at the top? They have rubber gaskets/washers so can't really tightened too much... I've given them a 1/4 turn as I can access them from the side
