Has Anyone had a new engine put in to there 790?

I did 1000 miles then noticed I had an oil leak from the rubber gasket from the head, so it went in to be checked, they took the head off to replace the gasket and noticed abnormal wear on one of the cams.....after further inspection they found swarf and metal filings inside the engine.

Oil samples were taken and sent to Austria via KTM UK, photographs were also taken of the cams and engine, so the bike sat in the dealers for 2 weeks with no engine in it.

KTM europe decided after 2 weeks of discussions, phone and conference calls with the dealer, KTM UK and KTM Europe they were going to get me a new engine yipppe.

KTM UK had no new engines in stock in the UK so the engine would have to come direct from Austria by road freight, It arrived after 2 days and reinstalled, happy again

The Dealer was really on top form gave me a loaner bike for 4 weeks and were very helpful and can't fault the customer service and kept me up to date most days, KTM UK also gave me a £300 gift voucher to say sorry

The bike now has a new upgraded engine from the original that was in it when i purchased it.

The worse thing is I had to run the engine in again 😞 what a bummer but was well worth it...its like **** off a shovel now

ok wow both good and bad
probably a blocked oilway or faulty manufactured part, but not relevant.
well at least you got good service just a shame you needed it
I think it was a one off. I just wasnt sure if anyone else had similar situation
Hi KTM rider,
Not an isolated incident I fear, there is a post on KTM Duke 790 UK Facebook forum on 20th November of two owners with failed engines, one guy saying it failed on day one!
Is this you and your bike ?, if no then that’s three !
This issue seems to have affected a very limited amount of models but at least it seems that dealers are taking to correct steps to resolve the matter. Glad to hear that you're back to enjoying the new bike.
Nope not posted anything there
when did you first get the bike out of interest?
Owl, trying to narrow it down a bit to what batch then. I bet all the bikes were made on the same run and probably a production line issue.

wow, I had the same leak, I took it to the shop and they replaced the gasket. ... hope no surprises waiting there ...
y.
It could be something as simple as a bad batch of steel, could be a surprise waiting for any one of us :surprise:

Nice Abba stand, got the same one myself
Me to, and I treated myself to an Abba Skylift at the show. It must have been seeing that 790 on one on display.
