Has anyone else worn out the original and replaced the rubber?
So far I have replaced my rear after less than 3000miles and as i like to keep matching tyres front and rear, just replaced with original, but when these wear out will look to replace the set.
The question then becomes with what??
ideas?

This is how my tires look like after ca 6000km and 3 trackdays, very durable but unfortunately not so good for the track. It never intended to be.
All depends on what you do with your bike and how you ride it, if you give me a little more info I can give you pretty accurate answer. I myself will change to either Dunlop sportmax TT or D212 E depending on how much track I’ll be hitting. If you do most of the riding on the street and twisties I would recommend Michelin pilot 2ct( stick great, warms up well and super cheap), pilot road 5( incredible durability and wet grip). Contiattack for rounder profile , grip for days, rounder profile, not durable:). Below picture of my stock tires.

hi
certainly looks to me like you have enjoyed those track days.
I just think the standard tyres are ok but poor wear rate for a sports touring tyre.
on roads normally, wear to the edge, but the centres always goes first, I have used dual compound tyres in the past

The last set of tyres I purchased for my street triple r was a set of metzler roadtec 01, got about 5000 miles before they started squaring off. They were extremely good in the wet, as good if not better than PR3’s
so for those 790 owners that have replaced the tyres what rubber did you go for and why?
Like Owl I had Metzeler Roadtec 01’s on my just departed SMT, a great all weather tyre which warms up quick and is superb in the wet, which makes it very useful for where I ride, mainly rural often wet roads. They were also excellent in scorching Spain as well
My next set of tyres for my 790 I expect.
I’m torn between the roadtecs and trying out the new pilot 5’s, I had PR3’s previously that were also great in the wet. Very important for me too city riding through winter.

If I was fair weather I’d go for something a bit more sporty like the M7 RR’s
fair weather is only 6 months away

I had the M7 RR’s on my 690 also just departed, a great sports tyre but not so sure they would last as well as the Metzeler 01’s ?
so it looks like next year will be the year of discovery as people fit new rubber
will be interested in seeing the winning rubber
hmm been looking into the pilot road 5 aswell... I got the roadtec 01 on my last bike kawa er6f and they did everything good.
But i don't feel bad riding the stock tires on the ktm tbh. I got good feel and controle so far
I tend to agree they are not all bad
yes there are better
Haven’t had any grip issues yet myself, saying that, heading into winter I am a bit concerned. It’s starting to hit low single figures (°C) now and even after riding for awhile they’re still barely warm. Will stick with them, for the moment anyway.
I intend to wear them out before changing so another 2500-3500 miles
So, installed Dunlop sportsmart TT, the rubber is sooo soft and tasty! Now waiting 2-3 months for the season to begin. Shiiiiit.... the excitement:D

I'm thinking of going with michilen pilot rs, anyone tried those?
I'm new to the forum, and only had my new 790 Duke for 2 weeks. I have done 4500 km's, approximately 500 km's on gravel roads, and my back tyre is worn out. I'm interested in replacing it, with a tyre that would be more stable on the gravel, and better wear. Any suggestions?

that's some serious riding in such a short time
best gravel tyres are not the best road tyres
this is a road bike?

Lots of riding in two weeks at least 200 miles a day, I wished I had the time and with the weather.
When the rear stock Maxxis is done I will be getting either Metzeler Roadtec 01’s or M7RR’s.
I did not like the Michelin PR4’s especially the front on my SMT, maybe the PR5’s are better, but not for me.
