Hi Guys and girls,

Hereby a small introduction of myself and why I'm comming to the KTM forum.

After riding a Aprilia SXV 550, a Yamaha FZ1 (second gen) it was time for something more newer bike.

I came up with a 790 duke I picked up this weekend with some work on it. Perfect timing for over the winter :laugh2:

The previous owner dropped the 6 month old bike and damaged the left front suspension, left tank cover, left rearset and left passenger feetrest.

This means I can already do some upgrades while I have to change some broken parts. :grin2:

welcome to the forum and KTM ownership
do you have clearer pictures of the damage i am curious to see what actually takes the hit when the bike is dropped.

so what changes are you considering?

Suspension, generator cover, shift lever, passenger footpeg, tank cover and a dent in the fuel tank, but this I have to investigate how bad it is. It looked not that bad when I went to see the bike.

Considering upgrading the front suspesion since I have to change it, exhaust is a nice topic I have read, some KTM Powerparts instead of using the standard ones and some carbon parts instead of the plastic ones...

Hi
This hit something hard to dent the fork leg

well the only expensive damage is the LHS fork leg as far as i can see
if you are not taking a pillion you could just throw away rear footpeg, gear lever is easy as is engine casing and front mudguard
If a new tank cover hides a small dent in the tank itself not sure i would bother to fix tank

what about handle bars ?

Is it just the fork leg are you sure the frame and yoke are good?
I have not seen any 790 being broken for spares yet so i am not sure if a used fork leg will be available

So, an update on the dismantling, the frame is bent. I took it into account, but still hoped it was ok. Also the supports for the fueltank had an impact, I think when the tank hits the ground it sets of a chain reaction on the supports.

Welcome Tommy,
You can have my rear footpeg and mount free of charge. I have no use for it. Just pay for/arrange for shipping and I will send it to you. Not really sure how to do that. Maybe you could contact UPS and arrange it. I will be glad to drop it off. You don't need to send me any money just pay UPS. I am in United States. Just let me know.

this really must have hit something hard what with the dent in the fork and bent frame, I doubt the yokes are any good either

what your plan to sort this out?

Indeed, it hit something far more solid than explained...

I’m looking if they could straighten it up, but apparently KTM frames are know for cracking when you try to make it straight...

Plan B is to build everything onto a new frame. More work but better for the long term.

Are you really sure this is worth rebuilding?
Unless you can buy used parts, i doubt it, break for spares and find another bike?

I don't think I can get rid of a complete bike in parts (or enough parts to break even)... therefore it's to new. As long as I don't calculate my working hours, I could get break even with just the parts.

Good luck mate.... it seems to have turned into a bit of an epic to get it sorted.

Don't worry though, you'll soon be thrashing it round Spa :)

So, hereby my first update for 2019. I was a bit caught up at work. Nevertheless, first parts order will arrive next week. New frame will take a bit longer but in the meantime I can renew/upgrade the front suspension with Ohlins internals, prepare the bike for the "transplantation" and hope it will be ready before the first sunshine...
