Having fun on my 790 :D

Just saying Hi :)

I almost bought MT09 since I wanted a new bike in March but decided to wait for the 790. My first bike was a little Duke 125 I bought in 2016, covered over 16.000 miles and part exchanged for the bigger brother 790 Duke. :)

Just done over 6000 miles on it. Had a problem with oil leak from engine sprocket but that was fixed under warranty. Now having issue with leaking coolant onto O2 sensor I believe. Noticed few days ago when some smoke was coming out from the front of the bike at idle, checked coolant level and was almost empty. Topped up the coolant and will take it to the dealer Today. Had some problems with quickshifter when going from 5th to 6th gear, it was going into neutral but now pressing harder on the lever and its ok. Other than that no issues.

Got a new rear tyre at 4500 miles, changed Oil&Filter (Motorex) at 3000 miles.
Planning on getting heated grips soon and some other bits.

Anyway, having a lot of fun on the bike everyday since I bought it. I can see it through the window when at work and it always puts a smile on my face, I know when I finish work I am going to have some fun on it :D

is your 790 an A2 version?

both great bikes just the 125 is a lot slower

Yeah I jumped from 125 to 790. After doing my full license and riding MT07 on my test I had a hard time getting back on my 125. Felt so slow. My 790 feels soo good now. I dont think I need anything more powerfull than that for a while. But the 1290 superduke its my dream bike so maybe one day I will swap my 790 for 1290. 🙂

I have a 1290 SD as well and I can tell you the 790 is a fantastic bike, on a twisty roads I reckon the 790 is faster certainly its easier to ride. So do not rush to change.

its really down to the riding you enjoy and or what type of riding you do, if you enjoy blasting down very fast roads at huge speeds the 1290 is almost unbeatable.

but I am not sure how long you will maintain your licence or your life

Ever since the first review on the 790 came out i've been following them and it still amazes me at how well rounded it is. I think as more owners join the 790 community overall (not just this forum), these will become more know as a must have naked bike. KTM called it the 'The Scalpel' for good reason :D

Its been clear to me KTM's marketing efforts weren't just good marketing pieces like this...

I mean, it is making after all. They probably used some MotoGP rider to help show off the 790's abilities. Its a business, they want to make money.

I think the main difference is they do not pay the bills when they drop the bike, unlike the rest of us.
I did my own fair share of falling off in my first few years of riding, Poor tyres and brakes on unknown roads with lack of experience, stupidity I think I would say but fun mixed with the belief I was indestructible probably exacerbated my pain both physical and material
