KTM 790 Duke Dyno Tested

With new motorcycles, it’s only a matter of time until an aftermarket company or publication straps one into a dyno rig. In this case, Visordown took a KTM 790 Duke down to Big CC Racing for a few power runs.

Called the Scalpel, KTM’s sharpest tool in the shed is powered by the company’s first parallel-twin engine. With a LC8c unit at its disposal, the machine has a manufacturer claimed 103 hp at 9,000 rpm and 63.6 pound-feet of torque at 8,000 rpm. In the dyno run, its numbers are a bit off as Visordown managed to squeeze out 99.65bhp at 9,400rpm and 60.72 ft lb of torque. Still very impressive numbers for a 799cc parallel twin.

They’ve even taken it upon themselves to dyno test the 790 Duke in its various ride modes; rain, street, track, and sport. Unlike the relatively linear power delivery in normal mode, the various optional ride modes give you a softer power delivery by gradually opening up the throttle. Granted, you can still get 100% throttle opening if you twist the grip fully, but they’ve found that the “ECU opens the injector body valves at a slower rate.”

These charts are worth a look if you’re planning to tune the KTM 790 Duke.

The numbers are so small, I can't really read the rpm properly. Would be nice if there's a tune to smooth out the power delivery in the various ride modes because there's a huge drop around 8.5? rpm before it goes up again.

I like what i'm seeing here which when combined with reviews from journalists that have actually put it through its paces can build some valuable correlations. Too bad that its only at that point which this information makes greater sense.
