Just to be clear, I think it's the swing arm bobbins for rear stands that @barbagris is calling out.

Axle bungs/bobbins are probably a safer for the swing arm if the bike goes down.

It was @Mullasci who told us about his bobbin removing a chunk of his swing arm.
