R&G Paint Protection Film is Garbage

Just a PSA for everyone here, I picked up the R&G paint protection kit and half of the pieces were cut incorrectly making fitment a nightmare for them.

Also the directions are terrible, when it comes to showing where to place the film. For most of the kit this is ok because you can do a best guess and get it right. However when it came to the tank pieces no amount of guessing allowed me to line it up right and eventually it was too late, the pieces are now useless.

I’m writing to the manufacturer and hoping to get a refund after this mess. Just beware for anyone looking to buy the kit, I suggest waxing your bike instead.

The worst part is that because some pieces are close to cut right every other one would go on easy. Creating a false sense of hope that the next piece will be go on without a hitch 🤣.

Is the material itself anything special? - Making a pattern would be easy-ish

No it isn't, looks just like the clear 3M film. I might go get a roll of that and cut up some patterns to put on.

I agree, after seeing the quality control on that I have made sure to steer clear of anything R&G.

Right - then I will resort to my old favourite

This works well on headlights too if you can manage the curves.

Well I was about to and somehow stumbled upon Eazi-Grip. I'd seen photos of their "Evo" range on other bikes but that looked simply too clumsy.

Had not realised they do a "Pro" and "Silicone" range. No picture on their web so I mailed and asked - they sent me one taken by a customer. This actually covers where my legs/knees are. Ordered a silicone set - I think the Photo is the "Pro".

Sorry to hear that you've had such a bad experience. Is the kit different to the one in the photos of my bike? It sounds from your description that it's totally different. My R&G is a tank-only kit made from a plastic film with a rough surface. The instructions weren't all that good but I just marked the critical positions with a bit of painter's tape as a guide and used a hair dryer as per their recommendations to ease it on. No problems at all. It's been on since March and I'm very happy with the result.

Your kit is what I would call tank grips, I had installed the clear film to protect the paint but keep it visible.
