Curiosity - headlight

When I was cleaning my headlight today, I noticed a few tiny particles inside the headlight on the grey surround at the base of the reflector. I had a cursory look at the underside of the headlight and noticed that it's actually open to the outside (see photo). I'm not sure whether this is for cooling, disassembly or what but it would clearly allow bugs and spiders to get in if they had a mind to.

I'll have a bit more of a detailed look when I have time but has anyone else noticed this?

I haven't noticed it but will check it out when I have a min. I'm betting it's for cooling of the LED. Maybe also to alleviate having any moisture form in there?

Thank you! Just a bit of fun post-retirement after years of writing decades of dreary technical reports 😄

Every bike I've owned has had a vent in the headlight, in winter they generally fog up on the inside after stopping in wet weather. Surprised the 790 has a vent, wouldn't think leds would get that hot

That's what I thought too. The vents on bikes I've previously owned have been in more protected places too.
